April Reflections: Seasons of Writing and Becoming

Hello everyone,

April has been … well ... a little bit of everything.

Warm, sunny days where the snow melts and everything feels possible, followed by cold, blustery moments that remind us winter hasn’t quite let go yet.

And I’ve found myself reflecting how in many ways that this is exactly what my writing life has looked like lately.

There are days where the words flow with ease where ideas feel clear, creativity feels light, and everything seems to move forward naturally.

And then there are days that feel slower. Heavier. A little more difficult to move with the flow, in fact maybe no movement at all. Kind of like a return to stillness.

It’s funny how much the weather can affect our mood. “Under the weather” really is a real thing… and I’ve come to see that our creative process moves in seasons too.

Not everything blooms all at once.

Some days are for growth.
Some are for rest.
Some are simply for waiting.

And all of it is part of the process.

Last month, I shared that I had been nominated for the Poet Laureate position in St. Albert, something that meant a great deal to me.

I did not receive the position, however I was encouraged to apply in future years. I appreciate all the support while completing the documentation for the submission. The letters of reference brought tears to my eyes as I felt honoured to share hope and encouragement for literacy and authorship.

I will apply in future years and it will be an honour to serve the St. Albert community as Poet Laurette when it is my turn. I have deep belief in Divine Timing (although I forget sometimes).

In the midst of these shifting seasons, I have also been making quiet and steady progress.

I’m excited to share that Dani’s Adventure in Laundry Land is nearing completion and will likely be released in May, and just in time for summer markets. This story has been with me for a long time, and it feels really special to see it coming into the world.

I’ve also been spending time rewriting Assert-Teen, allowing it to evolve with greater clarity and intention.

And alongside all of that, I’ve been working on a series of abundance reflection workbooks. These work books are meant to add gentle spaces for thought, growth, and exploration around living each day recognizing abundance that already exists, while being open to new opportunities.

Each project is in its own season.
Each one unfolding in its own time.

April has reminded me that it’s okay not to be in full bloom all the time. In fact where I live nothing is blooming yet! But the blooms will come.

Sometimes we are held gently back and slowed, blanketed in snow. Sometimes are melting, and trying to catch the water in buckets.
Sometimes we are resting, and allowing ourselves to not do, and instead gather energy for what comes next.

✨ As usual, I’d love to leave you with a reflection this month:

What season are you in right now? And can you allow it to be exactly what it is?

Thank you, as always, for being here and for sharing in this journey with me.

xo,
