Seeing Ourselves Clearly — A March Reflection

Hello everyone,

March has brought with it a quiet kind of reflection for me, the kind that gently asks you to pause and really see where you are, and perhaps even more importantly… how you see yourself.

Recently, I was nominated for the Poet Laureate position in St. Albert. Even writing those words feels a little surreal. It’s such an honour — and also a moment that made me stop and reflect.

Sometimes, it takes someone else to show you how they see you.

The truth is, we don’t always recognize ourselves clearly. We can be so close to our own lives, our own work, our own efforts, that we overlook what is actually there. We focus on what we haven’t done yet, or what still feels unfinished, instead of seeing the depth of what already exists.

And I’ve been thinking about this…

Often, the good we so easily see in others — their creativity, their courage, their kindness — is also within us. But we don’t always recognize it, because our own view is softened or clouded by self-judgment.

This nomination reminded me to pause and look again. To see not just what is still ahead, but what has already been created, lived, and shared.

It also brought me back to something I’ve always known, but sometimes need to remember: Writing is a lifelong ability.

You can be very young and just beginning, or very experienced and still growing — and the words can continue to come. Stories don’t run out. They wait. They gather. They unfold in their own time.

I’m feeling that deeply right now.

I have a number of stories within me that are currently ideas, fragments, and beginnings that haven’t yet made their way onto the page. And I trust that they will, when they are ready.

One of those stories is finally coming to life.

After living quietly within me for a number of years, I wrote Dani's Adventures In Laundry Land and now that the art is finalized I will be sharing this book with the world very soon! This book feels special in a different way. Like it was something that needed time to settle, to form, to become what it is meant to be.

I’m looking forward to sharing this book with you soon!

For now, I’m holding onto this space of reflection — of seeing more clearly, of trusting timing, and of remembering that our stories, like us, are always still becoming.

I am leaving you with a gentle question to ask yourself this month:

What is something beautiful or meaningful about yourself that you might not fully see, but others might?

Thank you, as always, for being here and for sharing this journey with me. I will let you know how the nomination for the Poet Laurette goes!

xo,
